Welcome Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The Pre-Cursillo stage of our Movement initiates the evangelizing process which must be completed in order to accomplish the stated goals of the Cursillo. Sponsoring candidates is one of the main aspects of the Pre-Cursillo and the most important factor that contributes to the success of the Cursillo Weekend and evidently to the evangelizing mission of the Catholic Church.

Candidate selection and preparation for the weekend is very important and necessary. The Leader’s Manual states that there is no better preparation and attraction for the candidates than a personal and authentic witness of our fourth day. Such preparation should be done by means of a sincere friendship established through personal contact. Therefore, sponsors are encouraged to provide their candidates with the necessary information about the purpose of the Cursillo Movement.

Requirements for Sponsorship:

The sponsor should be someone who knows the mentality and purpose of the movement and is living the message being proclaimed. This means weekly grouping, monthly Ultreya (at least 5 in a 12 month period) and attending School of Leaders regularly. If you are not currently active in the movement, do your candidate a favor and provide your candidate with an opportunity to learn the tools of the fourth day, have an active Cursillista sponsor your candidate.

As a sponsor you must read The Cursillo Movement’s Sponsor Booklet. This is available for purchase at any School of Leaders from our treasurer.

It is imperative that you as a sponsor know you candidate well and pray for direction from the Holy Spirit. Talk to God about your candidate before you talk to your candidate about God.

Sponsors are responsible to tell their candidate what will be expected of them after the weekend: group reunion, Ultreya and School of Leaders. You might even invite your candidate to an Ultreya so that they can see what it’s all about before they make their weekend.

Candidate Selection:

The 3 day Cursillo is for people of all socio-economic levels. This variety of backgrounds is one of the reasons for the success of the Cursillo Movement.

The suitable candidate, besides being a baptized Catholic must be living the Grace through the Holy Sacraments they receive. They must have an attitude of progressive conversion. The potential candidate must read the booklet, The Cursillo Movement, What is It?

The Cursillo IS NOT a cure-all for those with “spiritual” problems; individuals who have psychological or emotional problems or those whose moral lives are so disoriented that they are incapable of understanding the message or of living the Cursillo
